Fronkey-style bug net question

I keep my ridgeline set pretty long - just shy of 10 feet (roughly 9 feet 11 inches). Will the 11 foot Bottom Entry Bugnet (fronkey style - no zipper) bug net be able to cover the length of my hammock? Or will I over-stretch the top of the net and tear it?

I'm using Dutch's 11 foot hexon hammock with the adjustable ridgeline.

On an 11 ft. hammock, your ridgeline should be 109.56" long (9.13 feet, or 83% of 11 feet). If you bought a Fronkey bugnet from one of our vendors, they would have asked you the length of your ridgeline and built the Fronkey bugnet accordingly.

All my 11 ft. hammocks have ridgelines, and my Fronkey bugnets work fine with the 109.56" ridgeline. If you're using a longer ridgeline and bought the Fronkey without allotting for that, you could have issues that would make the bugnet rip.

Roger that. I have not purchased a Bugnet yet. I was assuming using a longer than 83% ridgeline could cause and issue. Your post verifies that sentiment.

Before purchasing a bugent I will be sure to let the vendor know I'm using a long ridgeline so it can be made to fit.

I think it depends on how your bugnet is made. I have one I made where the ridgeline is a little short compared to the hammock. On the bugnet, I have about a one inch hole at the end that is reinforced with grosgrain. So what has happened is about four inches of that hammock will pull through the hole, but it hasn’t torn the bugnet. I reinforced it when I made it because I had been given an Eno bugnet and noticed the hole on the end for the ridgeline was torn. But the way the bugnet will tear is the hole gets expanded downward by the hammock being pulled through the small hole.

I'm sure that Dutch will work with you to make a special length bug net. I am a short guy and use 10' hammocks and he was more than happy to make a 10' fronkey net, before they were widely available.

Awesome. I've read that Dutch is good about custom tweaks on gear. That is likely the route I will take

I have always made my own and make them longer for this exact reason. Notice the difference between the store-bought ENO and what I made. Also, I make the ends a different color so you can can find them easier.Photo Nov 12, 8 25 54 AM.jpg

Nice! I made my own back in 2011. Unfortunately my dog destroyed it. I loved that thing. It's very satisfying to make your own gear. Your net looks sweet.

Same w/ Jared at Simply Light Designs.... I've warmed up my credit card plenty at both places! .... and have had Fronkey's from both.
