    Just a reminder

Just a reminder to myself why I don't like camping in the summer. I got over to my folks place about an hour ago after clearing some saplings etc. on property I bought last fall. It's pretty humid out here in Mathews County, Va. and I was soaked head to toe with sweat after a couple of hours. I went back to the boat and grabbed some clean clothes and was going to shower at the marina before heading to my folks for a visit. I forgot my towel so I decided to just head to my folks and grab a shower there. So, I get over there, hit the shower and got cooled off and cleaned. Then I get on the laptop and start reading posts on Hammock Forums. Not a good idea because after a few minutes of reading I decided to go outside and mess with my hammocks. I get out there and right off the bat flies start buzzing my head and I feel my back starting to get wet. Got my huggers out and on, marlin-spiked my toggles, attached the UCR's and finally hung hammock #1..... took a test lay. Removed #1 and attached hammock #2....took a test lay and decided this is nuts! I'm soaking wet again. Put it all away and now I'm back in the a/c.

It's hard to believe while sitting here on the GA coast with highs in the upper nineties that about three weeks ago, it was too cold to sit on the front porch in Tennessee and drink my morning coffee.

As a kid, I got to fight with my sister over which of us could sleep in the WWII surplus Army hammock on summer nights. There was no a/c and the hammock was the coolest place to spend the night.

    My, how spoiled we've become...

I guess that depends on where you grew up. I NEVER fought with anyone to see who was going to get to sleep out in the summer. In Minnesota sure but it's just too wet for me in the south to sleep out. Thank the Lord for air conditioning!

I don't mind hammock camping in the summer because I live in Colorado where at 10,000ft it 50 at night and 75 during the day.
There are still lots of reasons to get out with your hammock in the heat of summer. Fly fishing is best when the water is the warmest.
I think i'd invest in one of those pet palaces you know the ones that have a large area in bug netting. Checkout Pet Palace here. https://squareup.com/store/cave-creek-hammock/
I also would look into some kind of personnel water misting/ fan for the ridgeline. Amazon has some interesting ones search for personal misters.

Average first frost in Mpls is 9/16. One month away. Looking forward to the annual dissapearence of the state bird--the mosquito (and his nasty friend the deer tick).

Cold evenings by a warm fire just cant be beat.
