There is a tie out at knee level on the right side, inside the hammock. What is this for? It's the opposite side of the exterior tie out.

Is that the one that's intended as a way to anchor the bubble pad?
"...the height of hammock snobbery!"
If you are talking about the one with the shock cord attached opposite of the zipper, it's there so you can tie back the bug net when not in use
Ah ok, I see. Thanks.
I use that to hold the bugnet back. There are two ways to use it for that. First way is to drape the bugnet over the ridgeline and clip the hook over the bugnet and ridgeline to secure it. The second way to use it is to loop the shockcord over the bugnet and secure the hook to the ring on the outside of the hammock body.
Interestingly, I’ve never seen the official instructions from Hennessy as to the specific use of this.
Aside from the uses already mentioned, a friend of mine once told me that he used that shock cord to pull the corners of the hammock inside during downpours to prevent it from getting wet, since he uses the minimal asym tarp that comes with the hammock.

If its the one I'm thinking of my daughter uses it to help hold her pad in place inside the hammock. Hers has shock cord on it too.
