The only holidays I used to take advantage of were Christmas Day & New Years Day. Of course, this was back when I wasn't a dad. Those were the absolute best days to go skiing... The lifts were empty.

These days.. I don't want to be on the roads with the holiday rookies.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

The other good day to ski is Super Bowl Sunday.
Homer: Sir, I need to know where I can get some business hammocks.

Hank Scorpio: Hammocks? My goodness, what an idea. Why didn't I think of that? Hammocks!

Oh no and miss all those stupid ads and watching guys throwing yellow flags 80% of the time? They do manage to fit a little football in between all that, though.

The places that are generally accessible for a weekend trip in my area are usually pretty crowded on Labor Day weekend, so the last few years I have set up a 'camp' in my backyard. Cookout on the grill, roast marshmallows, make smores, etc. My son sometimes will setup in the backyard with me, so it's kind of fun.

Maybe I'll do the 16-mile stretch of the NCT between Ohio into Michigan. All asphalt road in full sun. Sounds like a blast!

Stellar plan! At least you'll have the trail all to yourself.

Sunny, highs around 70, mid-upper 40s at night. This weekend is hard to resist!!! But in addition to the Labor Day zoo, I really need to stay home and finish my deck. All I have left is one more cleaning, then stain after it's dry. It's a good opportunity for that as well...but Mr. Pine E. Woods is calling me into his office.

We have a long tradition of the family getting together in a multi-bedroom lodge. Let's just say the "relative" humidity is high and that I'll be sleeping out back in my hammock
