If you want the "stripes along the sides" effect, make it wider, and add a knotty mod so that the extra fabric stays out of your way.
Better yet make it double layer by sewing all colors together on left lateral sides making a "tube" of sorts that can have the cloth pulled around effectively alternating 3 colors "around the tube" if you will - or think of like cylindrical seal with 3 images - better even yet leave "slits" on lateral sides to insert a pad.

Just my 2 cents... you don't really see the color of the hammock unless it's empty and without an UQ. My suggestion would be make a multi-color UQP....under quilt protector. Stress on seams would be close to zero and you certainly wouldn't feel them thru the UQ. If you use a pad, you could still use an UQP, but it would be called an UHWPP.

A multi colored underquilt would be an awesome idea, thanks for the inspiration! I think Ill try the double layered patchwork hammock to begin with, and will branch out if that turns out wonky.

I personally would not add un-needed seems to a hammock. More work and less useful. I would look into Dutchware gear printed fabric or DIY tye dye if multicolor is what you seek.
The essential part of me can not be discussed here. Ask me in person.
