It's Winter in my neck of the woods. Dry, endless blue sky days & clear chilly nights.
Family drop off, kissed my wife & young son goodbye. Steady sweaty uphill grind on a dusty track. Glimpsed a scarlet red sunset before the darkness closed in. Up over the summit. Headlamp now on, tunnel vision, off-track, feeling my way along a new ridgeline.
Tiredness crept up on me. Sketchy hang site chosen. Nice rock slab to hang over but hard to get stakes into...ended up using a single stake, the other 5 tieouts tied to whatever was handy. Gusty winds chilled my fingers & hammock setup seemed to longer than usual.
Under my tarp, sheltered & warm, I listened to leaves on in the tree canopies & the winds buffeting my tarp(glad I used my under cover/protector for heat retention).
I briefly woke around midnight to dead silence...not a breath of air.

Dawn brought a chorus of birdsong, thumping wallabys & brand new views for sleepy eyes...

A puffy sleeveless, fingerless gloves + possum wool beanie and shorts, kind of morning. Packed up & prepped for breaky, tasty homemade Tuna Mornay, a belly warmer on a cool crisp morning.
No ticks...which is always a bonus.

A quick & dirty overnighter...just what the doctor ordered.
A happy soul again...
