Overnighter...from the land of bounding kangaroos.

It's Winter in my neck of the woods. Dry, endless blue sky days & clear chilly nights.

Family drop off, kissed my wife & young son goodbye. Steady sweaty uphill grind on a dusty track. Glimpsed a scarlet red sunset before the darkness closed in. Up over the summit. Headlamp now on, tunnel vision, off-track, feeling my way along a new ridgeline.

Tiredness crept up on me. Sketchy hang site chosen. Nice rock slab to hang over but hard to get stakes into...ended up using a single stake, the other 5 tieouts tied to whatever was handy. Gusty winds chilled my fingers & hammock setup seemed to longer than usual.

Under my tarp, sheltered & warm, I listened to leaves on in the tree canopies & the winds buffeting my tarp(glad I used my under cover/protector for heat retention).
I briefly woke around midnight to dead silence...not a breath of air.

Dawn brought a chorus of birdsong, thumping wallabys & brand new views for sleepy eyes...

A puffy sleeveless, fingerless gloves + possum wool beanie and shorts, kind of morning. Packed up & prepped for breaky, tasty homemade Tuna Mornay, a belly warmer on a cool crisp morning.
No ticks...which is always a bonus.

A quick & dirty overnighter...just what the doctor ordered.
    A happy soul again...

    Thanks Shug,
Definitely try & make some time for camping whenever you head down under again, there's a ton of places whispering....'come find me'.

I try to avoid camping on a ridge line because of those winds but you certainly had an awesome morning view. Thanks.

    Cheers Alt.Thomas,
A strange part of me enjoys the wild weather on summits & ridges.
I got lucky with the view, could only see as far as the headlamps beam, while setting up that night.

Travel to another country and don’t make time for camping!? Think you got your mords wixed up there! “Go big or go home!”, is popular phrase for a reason. ))

I was performing on cruise ships so it was not an option. Pre-hammock days anyhow.

Sure is...sweat some diced onions with a little powdered keen's mustard, add flour to thicken.
Pour in sweet corn kernels, creamed corn & drained tuna + cream(or milk). Rain in some shredded, bitey, hard cheese. Salt + pepper to taste.

    Pasta cooked separately.

Since it was a overnighter I just froze them in a ziploc sandwich bags & tucked them into a diy insulated pouch.

You could cook & dry the pasta + blitz & dry the sauce for a lighter carry & quicker cook time, won't be as chunky though.

    Easy & tasty.
