    First time setup.

Just received my 11ft Netless from Dutch with continuous loops and adjustable ridgeline, also have a Marlin spike hitch whoopie suspension kit....

Is there a problem I'm not aware of with attaching my whoopie's small loop via larks head to my continuous loops on the end of the hammock? Am I doing this backwards?

Everything setup and held me fine, I still need to fine tune my height so that head is slightly lower.

Direct a newb with suggestions please!

A lot of people prefer to be able to quickly disconnect their suspension from the hammock, especially if the lines get wet.

Starting to see that a lot of people run the whoopie through the end channel, some leave the CL in the channel as well?

I'll have to get my whoopie run through my ends later tonight. I also think I need to get those tree straps higher

Thanks. Definitely no quick release from the hammock currently setup like this

Yep, you’re straps should be higher. Your distance looks to be about 15’-16’, so your straps should be about 6’ high. Congrats on your first setup! One of us, one of us...

I tend to shy away from looping rope onto rope as that makes for very tight turning radius. Theoretically that weakens the rope, but it may not make a practical difference when using 7/64 Amsteel or greater with a hammock.

I hang on Dynaglide so I try not to temp fate further, LOL.

The reason for running the fixed end of the whoopie through the hammock is it allows you to hang from a shorter tree span while still using whoopies. But on a more advanced note, you lose the ability to remove the whoopies and becket hitch your straps directly to your hammock loops, which is the best suspension for the shortest possible tree spans. There’s a diminishing return though because your tarp is probably 11 feet plus a tad for its own cordage and hardware as well.

I never ran my whoopies through the end channel, primarily because I don't want to pack a wet suspension with a dry hammock.

This is enough reason for me to not run them through, thanks.

I have only recently got a pair of whoopies and went for a larks head connection. After few trial nights I and some thought, I decided to stick with that method. While they are not quick to remove, I'm usually not that much in a hurry that I can't take the extra minute to work them loose. I am also in favor of keeping the CL in place.
I worked out that between 10-14 ft my whoopies won't fit and betwee 15-20 ft I can use the whoopies. Less than 10 ft the hammock won't fit (at least not without sagging the ridgeline) and more than 20 ft I can't reach high enough unassisted to set the tree straps.
From there I calculated how many steps those distance equate to so I can more easily find the right distances between trees.
That raises a question I have, is there any real harm in leaving the whoopies attached and connecting to the MSH via the CL when the tree distance is too short?
