Has anyone tried Hummingbird Hammock gear?

It's on Amazon - very lightweight. Has anyone tried it? Thoughts?

Not very popular on HF. They achieve light weight by making tiny hammocks, such as the Single (5.2 oz.) at 8.6 ft. long and 3.9 ft. wide.

Wow! That's barely a kids hammock. I cant imagine that being comfortable at all. Also the cheap hammocks are not that much cheaper than a good cottage vendor single layer hammock. Saving a few bucks is usually never worth it in the long run over buying quality.

So far, in my experience the quality scale tips toward the cheap hammocks. My cheap big box store hammock is better quality and more comfortable than my cottage vendor hammock that cost 3x more.

I have not but hear they are very short in length. As are most cheaper lightweight hammocks.
Not sure your height and weight but take that into consideration.

Might be good for a gear hammock or suspension chair. Perhaps a short rest. I wouldn't want to sleep in it overnight. Nothing is "free"; there are always costs and compromises, even if they aren't immediately obvious.

I do like the integrated suspension set-up they have and use a similar DIY version. As for their hammocks, at that price point you can get a much better, more capable hammock.

Thanks for the responses. I wasn't looking at the price so much as the weight. The hammock/bugnet/tarp combo from Hummingbird isn't so far off the price point of a good Dutch set up, but it's quite a bit lighter. But if the hammock is really short and really narrow - eh. 200 grams isn't worth a good night's sleep.

I'm not aiming for ultralight - but my first backpacking trip a couple weeks ago, my pack weighed 35 pounds after food and water ... for an overnight.

FTR, I'm 5'1" and 207. Yeah, a lot heavier than I should be. Hopefully more pack trips will get THAT weight down :P

Good luck on your quest for dropping weight. If you haven't done so already, one of the things I can heartily endorse is log EVERYTHING you carry on a trip either on a spreadsheet or a program such as lighter pack. Once it's all in front of you on paper or screen, study it to see if there is anything you can eliminate that you don't use. A good way to do this is the famous "Three Piles" system. Then look to see how you can use one item for multiple uses which eliminates more items still. After doing this, see which items you use but can be replaced by lighter items. Tag these items, then replace them as funds permit. Good luck!

I started a spreadsheet this weekend and have made enough tweaks to drop my base pack weight by2 pounds. Got a couple cheap things to swap out that made a big difference.

I haven't played around on Lighter Pack yet. I may check that out later. Thanks
