    If your basting stitch is 1/4" the next seam allowance just needs to be wide enough to keep the raw edge from poking out on the underside (which is really not that big a deal anyway), so if your basting stitch is a true 1/4" then the next seam allowance could be 1/2" and cover it pretty easily.
