    Down vs Synthetic Compression

Looking to buy my first under quilt and have a question about compression. Which compresses smaller, down or synthetic?

Looking for something in the 30 degree range that will not take up a lot of space in my pack.

Down will definitely pack smaller. You can pick up a 30° Hammock Gear Phoenix Econ for a good price.

That's what I was actually leaning towards. Thanks.

Down will probably pack 20% smaller than synthetic.

I started out with synthetic due to budget and switched out to down after about two years. The compressibility, warmth and pack size made a huge difference. Lots of discussions on the subject here on HF.

High quality down (800 or higher fill) compresses way more than synthetic. Low quality down (500-600 fill) not that different from a good synthetic but still probably a bit better.

Great choice! I bought the regular version of it before they offered the econ version and it has been a great 40 degree quilt. I also have the econ 0 degree incubator and I can easily deal with the extra ounces to keep coin in my wallet. Post up some pics and a review when you get it out for its maiden voyage.
