I tested all my hammock laying on my side and was comfortable enough in all of them for the short timeI laid there. But I am by nature a dedicated back sleeper.

I'm a side-sleeper at home, but I find sleeping on my back to be a lot easier in a hammock. Sometimes I fall asleep on my side but I always wake up on my back with my pillow missing.

I side sleep in a blackbird XLC double layer (70D) and El Dorado single layer (the new 40D fabric) and cant tell much of a difference between the fabrics personally. I tend to wake up more during the night while in a hammock but feel more rested in the morning overall. When I wake up if I am on my back I have to turn on one side or the other to get back to sleep. I am around 240lbs if that figures into anything... ;-)

I side sleep with my knees up sometimes. I’ve found an 11’ gathered end works best for me.

I've heard bridge hammocks might be more conducive to side sleeping - but remember to bring a pillow to support your head. In a Gathered End, by morning I can puddle down to a curled up position - after all the muscles are relaxed; but at the start I'm in the more traditional figure-4. I usually don't judge the potential quality of subsequent nights on the sleep of the first night when lots of adjustments, physical and mental, are in play.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Thanks for the replies. I have been seeing a Chiropractor 4 times a week for the past 3 weeks! Finally waking up with no back pain. During the day the pain is a lot less. When i started, I was barely able to tie my shoes.

He has been putting me on a machine that pulls my hips down, upwards of 80lbs of force right now. Its called a decompression machine, but similar to the old torchere methods of pulling people apart with a horse.

I've always been a 100% side sleeper in a bed.

I slept on my side in a bridge hammock, but wasn't able to bend my legs enough due to its relatively narrow width.

Then, I slept on my side in an 11' gathered end.

Now, I sleep exclusively on my back in a GE. I never thought I'd be able to sleep on my back. Only took me about a week to get comfy doing so.

I'm still nearly a 100% side sleeper in a bed, but I sleep way better in a hammock. I never thought I'd be among the folk who say such a thing.

I rotate, side to side and sometimes on my back, in a ENO single and in my big Brazilian full time Hammock. I use a tiny little pillow under my neck and that seems to be just the thing.
