Best knot for rigging tarp/hammock guylines to ground

I've been reading up a lot on knots and now that I'm trying them on my 1.7mm lash-it, I find some of the cinching knots difficult to work with. First off, my overall strategy for getting to the ground is 6-8" of shock cord using a sheet bend to make a loop then larkshead these on my 4 hammock and 8 tarp tie/pull outs to take care of elasticity. I actually have 4 of these with tarp worms already on them but I plan on using them for the doors since the shock cord is a bit lighter. I would then larkshead 4-8' of lash-it 1.7mm to each of these shock chord loops to get to the ground or to setup porch mode, etc...

Now to get to the ground, I found that the tarpworms are a bit annoying because you need to go all the way back to the tarpworm and if the stake/log/root I find is far away then I'm always hurting for extra line-length to get back. I came across the truckers hitch which looks to be a lot more flexible as I'd only have to backtrack my line part of the way. In terms of the loop to tie, I tried an alpine butterfly but since the lash-it is so thin, I found it a bit difficult to undo. The slipped overhand loop where you stick a bight inside another bight is quick and seems to come undone more easily and seems to be relatively strong. Is there a better loop to use for this size lash-it?

Also, any other knots or riggings I should check out? While I'm not yet at the stage of splicing my own lash-it, I'm considering learning so I can have nice berry ends and also a nice looking loop instead of my bowline loops. The lash-it I cut then melted with a lighter tends to fray and it's annoying trying to feed it through the small tarpworms.

I keep it simple and use an MSH. Quick to tie and later release.

I'm having trouble picturing what it would look like. Also, how does it work for tensioning?

I put a midshipman's knot (a better tautline hitch) permanently on the end of the guyline. This creates an adjustable loop.

If your line is too skinny or slippery to hold knots, the best option is a good ol' Clove Hitch.

You can see the marlinspike knot done in the video below at 8:04 in.

Thanks Shug! That makes it clear for when using a stick I find but say if I found something immobile like a nice exposed root or small tree I could loop around, I take it I should try for a tautline hitch?

You could. Good choice to crank it down.
I still use the MSH in this case.
I’ll wrap the line around the root a few times then still attach the line via MSH to a stake.

I don't like Lash-it for guy-lines. I find Z-line less prone to tangling and holds knots and hitches better.

I like the Taut-line hitch. I skip Shock cord and tighten my tarp as needed by sliding the hitch.

As far as "not being at the stage of splicing (your own) Lash-it": Just do it. It isn't very hard and the risk associated with screwing it up is very low. With 1.75 mm Lash-it a large needle is really all you need to get started.

    Good Luck

Thanks for your advice. What diameter Z-line do you use?

Best knot for rigging tarp/hammock guylines to ground

    All good ways posted above
Simple knots and hitches that do the job and when you are ready to break camp—one pull on ripcord and they are easily undone—are my favorite knots and hitches
    Siberian Hitch
    Farrimond Friction Hitch
    Marlin Spike Hitch
First two disappear when tag end is pulled, marlin spike hitch disappears when toggle or stake removed.
Siberian hitch can be tied wearing gloves or mittens—cinches up tight to trees and bushes
Farrimond friction hitch is the ONLY slip and grip hitch that can be tied in the bight (without having access to either end of rope. It’s a slip and grip hitch like a tautline hitch.
Marlin spike hitch does not slip
YouTube has videos on each of these knots. There are multiple videos on each. Watch more than one, until you find one that is easiest for you to make these knots yours.
