Has anyone tried the Beckett hitch with the 2" wide dynema strap? If so, what was your experience? I'm wondering if the 2" dynema straps are too thick to be able to comfortably do a Beckhett hitch.
Several of the places I'm looking to go are saying we need 2" hammock straps. I've been using cheap polypro webbing and was going to get the 1" dynema straps to save a bunch of weight, till I ran into this 2" requirement.
If all else fails, you could take short 2" straps and some kind of (lighter) cordage that will definitely hold a Beckett hitch, put the 2" straps around the tree, tie the lighter cordage to it with a sheetbend/becket hitch (but reversed), and either have the other end connected to the CLs for the duration, or tie it on with a Beckett hitch.
Dutch's SpiderWeb 1.5" UHMWPE straps have worked very well for me in a Becket hitch and have never slipped. However, under no circumstances should you make it a non-slipped hitch; even a slipped hitch requires an almighty yank to undo the knot -- I have to wrap the loose end around my fist a couple of times and then yank as hard as I can without losing my balance. A non-slipped Becket hitch with UHMWPE straps is a permanent knot, in my opinion -- it's not coming undone except with a blade.
The straps are extremely pliable and foldable (they get "scrunched up" very easily). After every trip, to roll up the straps for storage, I have to manually unfold and flatten every inch of the straps with my fingers.
The upside is that they are impossibly light.
The 2" straps should perform exactly the same.
The Xbend will work I garauntee it. Give it a try.

X-Bend or J-Bend should work well enough on these. I've seen reports of Becket Hitches slipping and melting under high friction in some cases. (there are some test videos on YouTube).
Not an answer to your question, but maybe to your problem: Are your 1" straps long enough to wrap twice around the tree? Or do you think "the powers that be" will frown on that?
