Looking for suggestions to hammock camp in extreme heat and high humidity

94°, 75° dewpoint, sunny. I was on the river so it felt great. Even at camp I had a breeze off the 66° water. Still blastfurnace hot, but strangely tolerable. ZERO mosquitoes. I don't understand it at all. The next day, 67° and 5 hours of a straight downpour...then the mosquitoes came out like I never seen in my life.

I just same, kept drinking water, and kept the wet towel around my neck all day.

i live in south louisiana. any further south, and id be in the gulf of mexico. you've just gotta accept that youll be sweating in the hammock until the 2am. i dont use an underquilt at all when the lows are in the mid to upper 70s. i love a 360 degree bugnet. it allows me to forego an underquilt without worrying about mosquitos biting through the hammock. Ive been confident and comfortable using the 360 bugnet, topquilt, and light clothing ( tee shirt and pants) down to the low 70s

Strangely enough, i typically wake up feeling rather cool at 2 or 3 am in the upper 70s. Ill either slide into a topquilt rated for 50 degrees or put my pants/shirt back on and im good to go.

I know! Everything was on track, operating at 110%. Then it just malfunctioned, completely.

OK the forcefield is back into effect. Even talk of issuing red flag warnings (fire danger) later this week due to the dry conditions and very low humidity. Zero chance of rain. Can't wait!!

Being right at the start of August, I definitely caught a nice break in the weather!

The hammocking part isn't the problem...plenty cool at night. It's making it through the day that'll get ya. Camp near swimmable water to keep cool. You could also head up to Broken Bow or Western Arkansas for a bit cooler weather. I'm in FTW and I'd say we've barely if even broken spring temps at this point. Just get out there, you'll acclimate. Be sure to hydrate...A LOT!!!

Picked up a tiny fan at Menards this past weekend. $1.75. Basically just a rubber flexible stick with blades on end. I think I can wrap it around my ridgeline.

When I started this thread I was recalling a miserable night I spent out on Lake Texoma where the hammocking part at night was actually the worst part. This wasn't even the hottest time of summer. I was so hot, sticky and had a sleepless night because of being very uncomfortable. I agree with you the temps have actually been unusually mild this summer in this region at least. Today was the first day we hit triple digits and I'm seeing the heat index near Lake Texoma, which I hope to visit soon, has a heat index of 105F. I definitely will get out there soon.
