put it in the dryer with NOheat, just "air fluff" or similar setting for about 10min.

If that doesn't work it's pointless and you should send it to me Kidding of course - you should be ok with a little fluff and a night or two in it.

Before it goes in the dryer, make sure to take all the suspension off. Its amazing how tangled those whoopie slings can get. Not that it happened to me.....

Just hang it up and use it. After loading it with body weight and moving around a bit you'll never know the difference.

And be very careful about lending gear. Admittedly, I don't know anything about your particular situation and how/whether you might have discussed it beforehand with your friend, but it is my general observation that people who bring back borrowed gear that is dirty/wet/damaged will never borrow another piece of gear from me. To me, it is a character defect in people who think it is okay to do that.

And yes, I've got some unfortunate personal experiences to back up that position.

HOWEVER, apologies in advance if there are some mitigating/extenuating circumstances in this instance.

    It'll loosen up.
Think of it as putting on tight jeans out of the drier.
Just use it and see what happens.

I've given away tons of stuff, but almost never loan things out. File under relationship advice.

The whole thing got wet? Bad friend Can't advise on softening it up I'm afraid more than use should relax it, all the suggestions sound like great advice. I cringe at the thought of another guy laying in my hammock for some reason, especially if they might put their boots in it :O

I just washed all of my hammocks and hung them outside to dry. Amazed at how fast they dry. I didn't notice any difference in the fabric (Hyper-D, Robic and Monolite). I say just use it a few times to break it in again.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

Hand wash in the sink or tub. Give it a good rinse. Air dry.
Whoopies and some straps will bleed color, so remove.
