I made my first DYI Hammock!

So this is my first attempt at a hammock. I just picked up some ripstop fabric and thread at Hobby Lobby (because that’s where I was at the time with the wife) and talked her into letting me try this. She showed how to thread a bobbin and a few other basic instructions on her machine. And... here it is! It’s definitely not the perfect stitching or even cut length but I did it and couldn’t be happier Its 10 ish feet because I already have an 11’ HG Hammock and wanted to test a shorter length.

That's a real satisfying feeling to hang for the first time in one you've made. Be careful. The addiction factor just went up.

Your gear does not have to be perfect, it has to be functional. When you DIY your own gear there will be errors that give it it's own uniqueness. A lot of my gear is VERY unique but, it does what it was built for. Good job on your first one.
My ego said, SURE you can.
Half way in my body said OH NO YOU CAN'T

Very nice, what fabric did you end up with?
Some days I can't tell whether I found a rope or lost a horse...

DYI? A Do-Yourself-In hammock? One you hang over a cliff with intentionally fraying straps? haha.

There are a surprising number of threads around here that have "DIY" spelled wrong.

Hey, I’m not a 100% sure, it just just said ripstop nylon. Or I didn’t really understand the label? Anyway, it’s a pretty firm fabric. It’s not the one I’d pack up with for camping, but it did build my confidence. I also like that it’s 10’. I’m 5’6” and fit just fine in it.

Well done! Glad we didn't have to remind you for the mandatory "lounging coffee" shot.
