    Small tears/holes in hammock.

Hey I have a hexon 1.0 Chameleon that has half a dozen super small holes. 0.5 to 1mm long in the main body. Kind of were my back is when I’m inside. Should I be worried about it tearing and dropping me on my butt or is it ripstop enough to not worry about?

Also can this be diy fixed?

I would be worried if I had holes in a single layer hammock. The lighter the fabric, the more worried I would be. I would exchange the hammock, rather than repair it, because I wouldn't want the hammock to rip at an inconvenient point of time. But that's just me. There seem to be plenty of people, who go on using a damaged hammock until it gives out. If you want to repair it, Tenacious Tape has been recommended frequently for that purpose. And since the holes are small, you might be able to use a drop of silicone. Good luck.

I'd be a little worried and I in-fact fell through a 1.0 chameleon due to some set up issues causing a small hole leading to a butt sized one. As for if it can be fixed I have no idea. Hopefully others may have input.

If I had holes in a chameleon hammock, you would see large tears from me. Not just small tears. However, I'd second the tenacious tape idea. Also start praying more often and more sincerely. It doesn't always help, but it sure makes me feel better about taking risks.

I have a snag in a Hexon 1.6 hammock. The fibers don't look cut, but the fabric was stretched and frayed enough light would shine through. I tried tenacious tape but couldn't get it to stick (might have been too cold for the tape). Other things I've repaired with the tape have worked ok but the edges always curl after some time. Instead I put a dab of silicone on both sides and forced it through the hole and the surrounding area it's been fine since but the silicone looks like grease stains. It's not directly under me so I'm not too concerned.

    Welcome to the forum dlashrus.

Is it possible you tried to go too light? A 1.0 single layered seems destined to fail. A lot of the ultra-lightweight camping equipment produced is not durable enough to stand up to robust use. For your next hammock consider a more robust fabric or even double layered.

We all learn as we go. Good Luck

I would retire that hammock. Tenacious Tape will cover the holes, but won't provide any lateral support the hammock fabric. I wouldn't get a good nights sleep knowing those tears are there and the fabric integrity has been breached. I have a Robic 1.2 and Monolite 1.0, both single layer and they are precariously thin to begin with.

I'd also want to find out how that happened.... I am guessing you either slept on something or had something on you clothing that punctured the fabric.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

It got ~6 weeks of use on the AT last year. I wasn’t super careful about things in my pockets. I slept with a pocket knife, stake bag with stakes, etc... in my pockets.

Really? ... That seems askew for someone on post count #2.

I wasn’t aware my hammock forum post count was a prerequisite. Thanks for updating me.
