    Bug Bites From the Bottom??

So ive noticed that many hammocks have bugnet covers like the ridgerunner or chameleon, however they do not protect you from the bottom like a fronkey. Has anybody had problems with this?

An under quilt or a pad blocks all but the longest stingers.

correct, but in the summer when night time temps can be 80F+ and humid, I wouldnt be using a pad or UQ. Does a double layer hammock fix this issue?

Are you referring to Permethrin?(sp?) Hopefully not DEET, as that can damage various fabrics and plastics.

I have never had a skeeter get me through a double layer. I've also never had any issues with spraying permethrin on the bottom.

The first time I took my oldest for a hammock overnight I'd just got his "new" Hennessy. Mine had been treated with permethrin but his had not. In the morning....I woke up to my son covered in bites anywhere his bare skin was against the fabric. I'm a believer in the permethrin but I rarely go out when it's not enough to need absolutely nothing on the back side of me too. Never had a problem with my double layer Ridgerunner .

Just a thought.I use double layer hammocks. We made three or four hangs, each hang my backside was covered in welts, I was moaning about how blood thirsty the skeeters were.

Come to find out I was having an allergic reaction to a natural sweetner. I stopped drinking "VitaWater" and no more welts.

Skitters just have tiny little proboscis, two layers of fabric is just too much for the little blood suckers
