Bug Bites From the Bottom??

I think even a single layer of 1.6 HyperD is too much for them. We're having a really bad mosquito year, and after 2 nights out on hot still nights, no pad or underquilt, I haven't been bit through the fabric. I keep way away from the mesh though, I know they can get me there. I woke a few times to them buzzing behind my head, and laid very still to see what would happen, and no bites. There are different species of mosquitos though, so maybe elsewhere they have tougher proboscises?

correct, but in the summer when night time temps can be 80F+ and humid, I wouldnt be using a pad or UQ. Does a double layer hammock fix this issue?

Not necessarily. It depends on how attractive you smell to mosquitoes - and how many barriers there are between you and the mosquito. Mosquitoes *love* me, and they get me through 2 layers of clothing fairly easily. If you don't wear sleep clothes, mosquitoes can get you through 2 layers of hammock-fabric. If you don't want to wear sleep clothes and don't want to use Permethrin, you could always get a UQP. Since it hangs loosely under the hammock, it should protect you well enough.

Try using a Thermacell under your hammock when it's really hot. I use one for hunting and they work pretty well.

My hammock’s sprayed with permethrin under the assumption that mosquitoes would otherwise have been a problem. With permethrin, they haven’t been, but I never tried it without.
