LOL! 90% of the time those people are just downright mean. A big ax to grind about something. I'm convinced they're all transplants from my local BMV. They can make you cry just looking at you.

Last trip was great though. I forgot to take my kindle out of my backpack, so after it goes thru the xray conveyor the guy holds it up real high over his head and says "OK WHO'S BACKPACK!?!?" but in a joking way. Smile and relax; life doesn't have to be a b****.

This thread reminds me of the one about the guy hanging in the airport. I get that. Allow it once and everybody and their brother will be stringing up hammocks (mostly improperly and causing damage to property or harming others)

I fly once or twice a year for backpacking trips.

Normally carryon stuff that is expensive or would be tough to replace without a hammock cottage vendor nearby.

Down jacket if I’m bringing one.

Lighters can be carried on not checked. But most of the time I’ll just buy a new one at a convenience store. Just easier that way.

Checked baggage, contains everything else. Stuff I could get from Rei or even Walmart if it got lost. Tarp stakes, stove, pocket knife, trekking poles. Only thing that would be costly would be trekking poles.

Sadly, the technology doesn't currently exist to create a real lightsaber. However, you can pack a toy lightsaber in your carry-on or checked bag. May the force be with you.

Yeah...I sadly had already ruled out bringing the light saber. I've heard they are very effective on grizzlies at short range, but I'll have to rely on the Force alone...
