    Art Leob Trail 6/21-6/23

    Fellow hammockers,

I got the chance to go hit up the Art Leob trail southbound from the Boy Scout Camp to Davidson river campground with a fellow hammockfourmer. It was a great trip and I couldn't recommend the trail enough for its hammock camp ability. It also has a few nice shelters and plenty of water to quench your thirst. I have attached a few pictures to entice you to go out and try it soon.

Note 1: The cloud picture is not mine, Willin' took it.
Note 2: If you want the hike to be more challenging go Northbound, that being said I enjoyed going south throughly.
Note 3: I have a store where I make full hammock setups and accessories now, link is in my signature.

    Happy Trails
    Two Speed

    Oh heck yeah!

What an awesome and beautiful hike it was! I, as Two Speed and I discussed and agreed, would most definitely do the trail again and explore more of the area. And, can and do most definitely recommend it!

TallPaul - you will love the hike when you do it, and do it you should, in my opinion. The Shinning Rock Wilderness is amazing, as well as the views once you break out of the Shinning Rock Wilderness on past Black Balsm Knob.
    Highly recommended!
More than enough water and camp spots to allow for making this trail anything from a day hike to a however many nighter you'd like, or need. It's got a lot to offer from "green tunnel", to mountain streams and rivers & small cascading waterfall(s), to some truly breathtaking views way up high over 6,000 ft up, huge rock faces (cedar rock), huge quartz rocks and slabs, and more...

I hope Two Speed doesn't mind me adding a few more photos from the trip; and that sunrise photo again, from "the narrows" area of The Shinning Rock Wilderness, way high up on a narrow ridge, up on the north end of the trail.

Your's Truly, at the north end trail head just past the Daniel Boone Scout Camp, where we started from

That really nice view and sun behind the clouds on our first morning. Photo taken along a high up 6K+, narrow ridge in "the narrows" of The Shinning Rock Wilderness... The breeze was light, and the air crisp, and chilly way up there that morning, so beautiful,

Some of the beautiful Azaleas growing along the trail as you come out of the Shinning Rock Wilderness

View of the many layers of miles, upon miles of mountain tops, and the clouds and sky, from Investor Gap at the southern boundary of the Shinning Rock Wilderness on the ALT. Right where we saw our first white blaze of the ALT (Art Loeb Trail).

Obligatory photo next to plaque atop Black Balsm Knob, the highest point on the ALT. Just out of view is/was a pretty decent storm that blew in with a quickness. The lightening made it interesting, and the rain made it quite refreshing

And of course the southern end, where we finished. We self shuttled, stayed more or less at the northern trail head the first night, and then at the Butter Gap Shelter the next night, finishing the following morning.

We for sure had a Great Time of it, and it is for sure a Great Hike!

also, if you.... well at least on my old windows computer, right click on the photos and click "view in new tab", you can then view the photos in a bigger, more real size, and not what the forums knocks'em down to.
