    New to Hanging...

Daughter and I are considering a thru hike of the AT next year and I just know I won't sleep well on the ground. Soooo... Here goes nothing! I live in S. Texas and have joined some of the Facebook groups to learn more. Looking forward to hanging with y'all and making some of the Texas hangs when I can!

Welcome to HF and best wishes on your hanging/hiking future. Great people to meet and share info in both scenarios.

Welcome to the forum! One of the best things that helped me was to view the video series by our famous "Shug" Emery. His "Hammock How-To for Noobs" will provide a lot of info along with some entertainment!

Outdoor Adventures is currently on the AT and should be finishing within the next week so if you want to see how it goes using a hammock check out his youTube channel. He's not had a single issue using a hammock.

Welcome to the forums! Before becoming a member, my son and I did lots of research through this site and got plenty of help. He completed a thru of the AT in 2015 in a hammock plus using the shelters. I got to start with him and do a few miles here and there. Really excited for you both and good luck!

I forgot to mention that Alan Dixon's website was also helpful in building a solid gear kit. Check it out at: https://www.adventurealan.com

A huge +1. Probably the best organized and most helpful website when it comes to UL backpacking.
