    French River Hang - Mid-Late Aug 2019
Quest for the Bay (2nd Try)

Back in 2018, we were forced by forest fires to postpone our much anticipated French River/Georgian Bay trip. Hopefully this year, we'll have better luck.

I've copied some resources from last year's thread to get the planning going. There are a few routes starting at Hartley Bay Marina, but there are countless ways to get out to the Bay. A couple of us are considering extending the hang (before or after) to spend a week paddling the area. Note: As we discovered, we should also have a back-up plan.
Can everyone who's interested please provide their preferred dates.

What do you guys think of the 17th or 19th to 26th with people coming and going as required? If Rob is willing, we can borrow his Garmin (for a fee of course) to relay the camp location for people coming in later.
So far, I see the following comments about timing

    • Keewakeno: Aug 12-26
    • Keg: Mid july - mid Aug up to the 26th.
    • Iguana: Not July 27th - Aug 3rd or Aug 10 - Aug 20
    • Niagara: After July 23 and into Aug
    • Luvmybonnet: Aug 16-18 is no good

For those paddling about on the Bay, these are world renowned kayaking waters.

Is there a plan to stay on the shores of the bay or make that a day trip? I am wondering if there are trees ( I seem to recall they are scarce bay side) ... or whether to plan going to ground.

I plan on trying to make this one, the later dates in August are my prefered, but I am flexible.

I have no idea where we'll be camping yet. Personally, I'd like to get down to the Bay if possible. If that means tenting, then so be it.

I'll be bringing a tent and thermarests just in case I have to "go to ground". Not too much of a hassle considering how trivial the portages should be, the real question is do I bring a big tent or my wee solo. I've a 6-man, a old 2-man and a solo to choose from or lend out (no promises about waterproofness).

From videos & trip reports, for most or all of us grounding is a given even further inland. Since portages are a non-issue, I'm going to equip for both in case the opportunity to hang presents.

I'll be up for the non-marshmallow trip, can manage anytime in August.

    Happy Canada Day!

I would love to make it out on this trip if there is room. I can do August 22 or 23 to 26. Since it sounds like there’s not much for hanging options I’ll just make my own trees and bring my tensa stand

    Happy birthday Canada!

Depending on the week there may be a remote possibility I could join for a couple of week days.
