    Lehighton PA help!!

Anyone familiar with Lehighton PA area? We do a lot of whitewater kayaking day trips around Lehighton and Jim Thorpe and would love to know any spots to hang instead of getting hotel rooms or traveling long distances back and fourth from Long Island. Thanks..

Hickory Run? It's a campground? Good secluded sites for hammocks? Any particular sites better then others?

Nothing available anyway for dates needed.
Are there any good spots to camp off any trails in this area? Like doesn't have to be a campground.. I would actually prefer not to be..

The AT runs within 10 miles of Lehighton, on the ridge of Blue Mountain. I did hike through PA on the AT, but it was some time ago and I don’t recall how that area of the AT was for camping at other than shelters. Of course, depending on the time of year, it may be quite impractical.

The AT is close and there' tons of places to hang...but I ruled it out because you'd need to hike in a bit and what would you do with the kayaks?

BTW...these campsites at Hickory run are good for hammocks (there may be others)

There is also camping at Whitewater Challengers in Weatherly and a private campground in White Haven - Lehigh Gorge Campground. I haven't camped at either so I don't have any beta on them.

A bunch of us just did a little Hang back at the walk in sites 6-11, in the Hickory run campground. Right along the creek. It was beautiful. We are going to do it again soon. Great area.

Here is what I found. Sites are right on the water. Road noise from Route 248 across the river would annoy me. Otherwise, scenic and convenient. I can't say if they allow hammocks.

So there is actually a new campground right next to the water at Lehigh Gap. Not sure how to actually reserve sites. There are trees, but not a lot from what I recall. I think it is like county owned or maybe township owned.
