I'm planning a section hike of the Mountains to Sea Trail. This will be my first backpacking trip that is not an out-and-back or a loop (i.e. not ending in the same place I started). I spoke to a shuttle company and was quoted $168 for a lift from Waterrock Knob (where I'd leave my car) to Clingmans Dome.
Hoping for input from folks more familiar with this sort of thing - is that reasonably close to the going rate? Any suggestions on other options? TIA...

When are you looking at going? (I might be around that way). Also, the MTS page list some trail angels for each section. They might offer shuttle services or at least might be able to point you toward a much cheaper shuttle service... https://mountainstoseatrail.org/the-trail/trail-angels/

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked, and currently the only suggestion is for shuttles out of Gatlinburg, and I'm not sure how that'd work since it's further west... I know Danny Bernstein used to maintain a shuttle list, but from what I've read she no longer does.
The Appalachian Trail is fairly close - you can try their list of shuttles... they include the location of the shuttle driver so pick one sorta close (Cherokee or Franklin)

I got a ride from Bobby the Greek from outside Cherokee to Winding Stair Gap for a reasonable price - lot less than yours anyway.
Sorry. I wouldn't be able to help out the week of the 8th. I'd love to hear a trip report when you complete it though! Good luck with the shuttle....
