I got the thunder for the same reason. Cooking is also easier under it with extra space.

Found this thread while looking for the post about sealing the extra "rings" on a 13ft SuperFly. Though many of the comments supporting the ThunderFly mention the rain coverage, there are more uses/purposes of the fly than that. And those uses might give the MiniFly the edge. For those on the fence - sorry to make the fence higher (Hint: ease your pain and get both; choose different colors so when you grab one to go hiking/camping, you'll get the size you were intending to bring).

In addition to rain, the tarp also keeps out the sun, and the moon. When you are napping in the afternoon - say, after a day hike to a lake - that sun can be positioned to burn right into your eyes. Tarp to the rescue. When you want to sleep, and it seemed "romantic" the camp under a full moon. That full moon can shine in your face like a spotlight. Tarp the the rescue. No need to mention birds on high. In many cases the MiniFly is just enough and, as mentioned in earlier posts, provides a larger view window and ease of entry. And it still protects you from the rain.

Which one did I get ... as recommended above, I got both; a ThunderFly in burnt orange (for kayaking - easy to be found if necessary) and a MiniFly in forest green for day hikes and xc skiing (or short overnighters).
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

    Great pics and review.
I have the Superfly and love it, but you got me thinking about the Mini now.

I'd never want to have to manage a supply any longer. Just don't need that much material for what I've encountered.

My mini fly just came in and it's my first silpoly tarp, near feels like skin. I pitched it to set up snake skin, suspension and tie outs. I got some of the high vis cordage with the new tap ticks so I cannot wait to get out to see if I will miss my silnylon superfly!

If I was a betting man I would say that I will not miss it and still own it to use whenever needed!

I sgeee that I bet you will not miss your SF either. If so the Thunderfly was as large as I think I'll need.

    Resurrecting this old thread.

I finally broke down and bought a MiniFly after reading this. I already have the SuperFly for my winter trips but wanted something lighter and smaller that would give me more visibility outside when hanging. Never tried out his camo and thought it would be a nice change of pace so went with the brush camo for mine.

And to counteract all that camo I bought some Glowire from Lawson to use to stake it out. I dont want to accidentally run into my tarp!
