    DIY under quilts

What I don’t understand with respect to using a Costco or other down comforter as part of a do it yourself under quilt is that it appears from the descriptions that the down is enclosed inside a cotton layer.

Isn’t that cotton layer going to absorb moisture from the air and negate the insulating factor of the under quilt?

    What am I missing, please?

The Costco quilts people use for DIY projects are the Packable Down Throw from Double Black Diamond. They are a polyester/nylon blend.

I believe they are currently unavailable from Costco.

While I haven't gotten my Costco quilt wet, I have heard that the shell does absorb water readily (though not like cotton).

I have had a hot water bottle leak and it will instantly soak through a Costco down quilt. There is no water repellent at all although you should be able to add some. Didn't really notice any moisture from the general air but that wouldn't surprise me.

I'm hoping to snag a Costco blank or 3 if they return to the stores this fall and making some quilts. Anyone have success adding water repellent to their DIY Costco quilt(s)?

I have a spare CDT if you'd like one now. "Silver" or "Cloud" color.

Try the Mass Drop Pine down quilt, $99 and is 40degree rated. I DIY'ed one into a UQ pretty easily.

I ordered mine (as well as a set (2 pair) of their hiking poles) from Costco.com. Poles were right at $70 so $35 a pair, and I think the two pack of down throw blankets were around $45-$50.

Would this Costco down blanket be equivalent to the Double Black Diamond one? https://www.costco.com/Blue-Ridge-AC...100506435.html

The "Blue Ridge" is just a new branding of the Double Black Diamond blanket design. They are apparently the same.
