Heavy, inexpensive, long daisy-chain for newbies

So, a few people from my work wanted to try a hammock after seeing mine in the backyard.

None wanted to learn the Becket Hitch. None care about weight.

So, I tried these off of Amazon:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07C7...b_b_asin_title

It turns out that the daisy chain suspension is basically idiot proof. I am tempted to buy some lightweight ones for myself.

In the end, $13 bucks shipped (with prime) for two 16' daisy chains and a few heavy carabineers was worth it to me. Granted, the setup weighs a LOT, but, for backyard casual use, does that really matter? Especially true if it gets more people hanging, eh?

FWIW, they have shorter versions for a buck or so less as well.

Specs say it's 1.2 lbs for the pair. I suspect much of that weight is in the biners. Swapping them out for a lighter climbing biner could shave some poundage. Or don't bother.. use it as is.

If you're not backpacking, or concerned about weight, or new and just want to get hanging fast.. then sure.... cheap and simple.

Not for me though.. my current suspension is less than 1.2 ounces.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I use daisy chains (old ENO) ones all the time for my family who want to hammock but don't want to fiddle around. Mostly the little ones and teenagers. I have a set of my own that I use for my motorcycle camping set up also.

When car camping with the family in the camper I use the daisy chains exclusively. I have dedicated camper hammocks and suspensions. All from Amazon purchased with a Vipon coupon. There is a current vipon deal that for $11.00 you can get 10' straps, carabiners, and a 10' hammock with a desperate bug net.

I noticed the walmart daisy chains are down to $9.87 BUT they are 9.6' each. I guess that's not bad if you're using whoopoes too.

I've got a similar set from Amazon I use for my 5-year-old daughter's hammock in the yard (DIY tablecloth hammock with continuous loops). I put some anchors in two fence posts spanning the corner of the yard. After I figured out which loops to use, I left the biners on the straps so it only take a few seconds to hook it up to an anchor and snap another biner on the continuous loops. Works great!

Actually, the listing says they are 9.8 feet long (with 28 loops). It is unclear what "16+1" means in the listing

There are different options. I got the long ones, and they are 16' each.

The Amazon link doesn't seem to give a length option in my (Safari) browser. It is a VERY confusing ad because the product says, "16+1", the descriptive text says, "Cutequeen 2pcs 34 Loops 20Ft Long Hammock Tree Straps", and the bullet points say 9.8 ft. Below this item, there appear other daisy chain alternatives that look quite similar - just different thread color and some have more loops.

Though the initial product says it has 34 loops in the descriptive text, it says it has 28 loops in the bullet points. The "16+1" most likely refers to having 16 hammock attachment loops and 1 loop that cinches to the tree/support. So that makes the "34" loops and "28 loops" remains a mystery unless you consider the vendor's ad person doesn't understand the product.

Though "more loops" per given length adds a little more weight - it's only the weight of the extra thread so worth considering. I carry a short dog bone that gives me a Half-a-Loop step.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Would the desperation be on the part of the hammocker trying to keep the bugs out or, on the part of the hungry bugs trying to get in?
