Small Custom Simply Light Designs Trail Haven 7D Rocky Woods

I needed a new summer tarp so after watching several of Shug’s entertaining videos I decided I liked his tarp design. I reached out to him and he said he made it himself using the Black Cat tarp design by Black Bishop.

I decided to opt out of the extreme cat curves for potential low to ground pitch so this is a custom hybrid Simply Light Designs trail haven tarp modified. This material is Rocky Woods 7D coated ripstop and without hardware weighs in at 8oz. The ridge line is slightly longer than 11' and the center is 70" flat. The fabric reminds me of light ION in feel but with ripstop gids. It doesn’t have sag and seems strong because of the grid but definitely watch out for poking holes in this stuff.

This tarp has several different modes it can be configured in such as wide summer or tight storm mode. I’ve yet to try it out in crazy weather in the field but its done well in my initial tests. I added the cam snaps and found that Dutchware tarp worms are the most flexible tieouts to use with this tarp due to the quick hook and release abilities.

The middle edge tieouts are about 50” spaced from each other and they are about 24” from the end corner tieouts. When closed in buttoned down mode the width distance from center edge to edge is about 36” and about 76” long from center bottom end closed tieouts to opposite end. The corner angles are about 40 degrees from end tieout to edge tieout when closed.

    $240 Cost breakout:
    $20 - 7d snakeskins
    $70 - specialty order 7d fabric
$150 - trail haven with center pulls, edge tieouts and ridge loops

If you got regular sil without all the extras probably around $130.
I wanted to experiment a new fabric since Ive tried sil, xenon and membrane already.

That looks slick. Can't be mad at that weight either.

Edit: What did if run you?

Looks very stealthy with those ends pulled in. At first when I saw the post I thought it was for something you had for sale. Anxious to hear how you like it after you take it on a few trips.

That black looks cool and it's almost the same weight as my CF tarp.

That is really a great looking tarp. Really battens down tight with the cam snaps. And only 8oz to boot, that's very impressive.
