On a hike through Shining Rock we had to use bear canisters. No issues.

    Veterans of this hang.

There is a hard shelled bear canister requirement in certain areas of Pisgah National Forest.

I had to use one on the Art Leob trail.

Is the area we will camp in affected by this?

Not required in our area and did confirm with the Pisgah Ranger Station just in case anything changed. They said there is a map at the visitors center that shows where bear canisters are needed and the area is on the other side of the blue ridge parkway. But I would say 90 percent of us who attend this have bear canisters and we keep them by the campfire at night.
    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

The black X is our approximate campsite and bear canisters are required in some of the area circled. So if you are going to hike Art Loeb from our campsite you will need a canister in those areas.
