Hello everyone. I have been experimenting and testing out ultralight UCR's made from 2mm 1000 lb Spectra.
I'm making them with built in button knots to use as a no hardware connector. On the constrictor end I make an overhand knot and use a 1.2mm prussik with a noose like what you find on a soft shackle to keep the constrictor under tension and prevent slippage.
In testing this system works very well. A pair comes in at 0.7 ounces. Combined with a pair of my 1.9 Grams per foot kevlar tree straps and you have a 1.7 ounces suspension!
I have tested this with my 270 lb friend and it's working well and has no slippage.
Then one thing is that for the button knot no hardware connectors to work you have to replace your continuous loops on your hammock with a pair made from the 2mm spectra.
I have Green, Blue, Yellow, Hot Pink, and Red 2mm Spectra available so you can make all kinds of fun combinations.
I can also make these in Amsteel. See the last three photos for the Amsteel variety.
(Please note that the Amsteel version in the photos is a little different on the constrictor end where the prussik is. This was my first prototype. I am now making these just like the prussik on Spectra version.)
Let me know what you think.
