    Canada->Ontario->EGL->2019 Bass Opener on Noganosh

    callan2.jpg

    For those that enjoy fishing for less snobby species than trout, lets get together on the 4th saturday in June (June 22nd) and try to get some into the frying pan. Noganosh is a non-operating provincial park with purportedly great fishing for bass and pike. To get to the park, there are 3 relatively short portages after a 6km paddle on the pickerel river from Flemings Landing near Port Loring. No fees (probably no thunderboxes either - although I've heard otherwise too). There are no roads in the park and we can camp anywhere. There is a fly-in fishing resort on smoky lake which means there will be some motor boats around. The upside is that they don't usually build fly-in fishing resorts on lakes without fish.

    I'm planning on going in on Thursday or Friday.

    I'm going to throw the Saturday/Sunday overnighter on the calendar and hope that it sticks. Work should be getting a little frantic leading up to Canada Day, and I fear my weekends might get forfeited. I might even go so far as to get a fishing license.

    oh its a good trip in. I suggest the eastern launch site. "longest portage" can be very muddy but its not long at all. One thing we found was that the snappers seem to be fed by the regulars as you can never go down to the water without being stalked and hissed at. Would definitely be up for doing that trip again.

    I'm in for Thursday - Sunday.

    What do you mean by "eastern launch site" Hoolio? I see Fleming's Landing on the map (looks like very limited parking) & the two resorts mentioned in Kevin Callan's article (parking for a fee), one of those?

    I think Fleming's landing is the closest - I know that people also put in where 522 crosses the river - way to the west. Probably a popular weekend to go so we may have to call an audible if the lot's full at flemings

    Yes Flemings Landing. I didnt have the map in front of me for referral. The western launch is as Greaves mentions where the highway crosses the river.

    There's a trip report on MyCCR that goes over the route and portages from Fleming's Landing to Nogy.

    Another one (longer loop) starts out from Lost Channel Inn and Marina to Smoky Creek, which may be an easier paddle (west to east) than the trip from either of the resorts mentioned in the KC article (east to west), given the prevailing winds.

    I'm probably going to join from Friday through Sunday, starting at Fleming's Landing. Might bring my brother or a buddy along if they're free and can get away.

    Threw together a quick Google map of the routes... https://drive.google.com/open?id=1NV...et&usp=sharing
