Suggestions for sewing stitch: repair a ripped tarp tie-out

Hi all. I recently went on my maiden voyage hammock camping. A more complete explanation of the issue at hand can be found at this thread, if you are interested.

Basically, the fabric tie-out for my tarp ripped off, and the current consensus was inadequate sewing, and lack of an extra piece of reinforcement material. I really don't know the first thing about sewing, and have no sewing machine, so I am wondering if anyone could provide me with a suggestion of the type of stitch I should use for proper reinforcement. And the type of thread. Links to a how-to guide are most welcome too, but I can google it if pointed in the right direction. Thanks for your time and thoughts!

Check out this blog post over at RSBTR. Something like their bonded reinforcing patch might be just the thing you need for repairing the tear.

As for sewing on a new tie-out, do you have a mother, grandmother, sister, co-worker who sews? They could probably make real quick work of that. Otherwise, you might have a look at Jellyfish's sewing tutorials on youtube. She has just about everything you need!

You definitely need reinforcement patches on the tie-outs.
    I sew things on youtube.
I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.
