Do you mean Hookworms? Tarpworms always stay on the tarp. In any case, you can just leave the hook attached to the shock cord but, that being said, there is a chance for the hook to fall off and you’ll lose the guyline. Best bet would be to replace the Hookworms with Tarpworms.

The only thing I can think of is put a loop on the stake then larkshead the guylines on to the tarp. When you want to deploy, attach the hook on the stake loop and tighten from there. Kind of awkward, though.

Honestly, if your guylines are attached to the tarp you don't really need any hardware. On the free end of the guyline, just use a marlin spike hitch with the stake.
I also use this approach. The best part is that you can easily tie the marlinspike hitch anywhere along the guy line so you can make the guy line as long or short as needed (usually to fit in with the ground conditions).
Or a rolling hitch, so it's easier to fiddle with after the fact.
Well, one reason would be to allow you to easily detach one side of the tarp and flip it over to the other. Maybe I'm the only weirdo doing that, though. On my winter tarp, I don't foresee wanting/needing to do that, so I just have the guylines larks-headed to a loop of shock cord on the d-rings.
That being said, to the OP: assuming you're using the right size shock cord (3/32"), the hookworms should "click" onto it and hold pretty well, but depending on how you roll/stuff/pack your tarp, there is a chance they could pop off. I use neon green or orange Atwood micro cord for guylines, so if that were to happen to me (it hasn't yet), it'd be easy enough to find the line.
I have hookworms that I keep attached to the loops of shockcord at my tarp tieouts. They haven't come off so far, and I don't expect them to. The security of the connection might depend on the exact specs of your shockcord though - mine squeezes in with a secure, positive feel.
It is nice to be able flip half your tarp over.
I recently had to set up a tarp for my buddy with no hardware. Clove hitch at the stake. Line is larksheaded to the tarp D-ring. Couldn't have been quicker or easier, and lines stayed with the tarp.
