    Seam sealing ridgeline

I just got back from a week in the BWCA using my ridgerunner/superfly combo. It was my first time getting rained on( I live in SoCal) while using this tarp. I found that I had a leak in the ridge line. I sealed the pullouts before using, was I supposed to do ridge also?

I'm not that familiar with the super fly but usually the ridgeline gets sealed. The tie outs arent going to get your gear wet unless maybe in porch mode and it runs back toward the hammock. Any tarp sealed or not should get a sealing treatment once in a while. The stitching moves in packing and unpacking. If it's been sealed with silnet or the like then a light coat of cheap waterproofing spray from a can will do the trick.

Did it leak onto you or at the ends?

My super fly is several years old and never a ridgeline leak. Not sealed either, except pull outs.
If you prepare for failure you will probably succeed.

Due to the RL seam construction of this tarp, it supposedly isn't "needed".

Since you had a leak though, seal away!

How did you rig the tarp?
If you had a line under your tarp ridgeline it could have been water coming into the tarp down the line. A drip line would stop that.

I own a Superfly and heard the ridgeline didn't need to be sealed. I only sealed the four side panel pulls. It rained pretty good one night after I sealed it and I never had a leak.

The leak was in the very middle of the tarp from the small loop there. I had the ridgeline over the tarp so it wasn’t water traveling down from the ends. I will seal the ridge when I get home. My wet down bag in 30 degree weather wasn’t fun. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem

Is the loop you're talking about a piece of grosgrain ribbon used for securing a center internal pole mod? If so, that might be something that needs to be sealed, which you unfortunately found out the hard way.

I wasn’t sure what it was for. It is a small loop with a piece of cord hanging from it.

I had to seal the ridgeline on my cloudburst.
