    Overnighter to Grassy Ridge, NC/TN

I had a chance to do a quick overnighter with a friend to a place called Grassy Ridge. I had never been there before and man was it beautiful! It is located just off the AT, mile 381 north bound. The best way to get there is to park at Carver's Gap and hike in. From the parking lot it is about 2.5 miles in and the sign to Grassy Ridge on the AT is clearly marked. It is great for a quick overnighter if you live nearby!

One of my favorite spots on this Earth! You can also go south from 19 East to the big bald or there's a great hammock spot down at doll Flats

Indeed, it is one of mine as well, just had never taken the side trail to Grassy Ridge before. The first backpacking trip I ever took (2009) was with my son on that section of the AT from Carver's Gap to 19E. Pack probably weighed 40lbs (ugh!) and I didn't set up the tent right and we got wet. Fortunately there was a boy scout troop on Doll Flats that knew what they were doing and we got help We saw cattle up there that year as well. Inspired us to start learning and taking more trips!
