First purchase promo code

I'm actually trying to decide what UQ/TQ to buy (40F/30F, with/without Overfill and so on) so I have them in my cart for a few days. I got an email from HG: "Hi Happy Camper. You still have items in your cart - don't take a hike without them! Use promo code ...% off your first purchase ... with Hammock Gear!". I tried to enter the code but it says "The coupon code you entered couldn't be applied to any items in your order." Why it doesn't work? Is it because I changed my cart a little bit since the code has been generated? With international delivery cost and import taxes / custom fees it will be great to have a discount. Do I have useless promo code now? Not happy camper.
