    Drilling another hole - great idea!

    WV's idea of drilling another hole in the pulley solves the problem of fabric wear and actually makes the system weigh less! This forum has the best ideas.

    Any concerns with stretching the fabric, or wearing through the silicone? This looks like a better idea than a button/larkshead since it's covering a larger surface area...

    To minimise stress and abrasion to the tarp, I'd smooth any sharp edges on the sheave (pulley), or perhaps make a special sheave with a larger diameter and a wide rounded rim on the tarp side.

    I like your design better than Grip Clips because the elastic band releases under stress avoiding damage to the tarp (and the threshold can be adjusted by substituting a stronger/weaker band).
