Level tarp pitch or not... do you care?

Is there any compelling reason to pitch your tarp level other than visual appeal???

Last hang I needed to get low and tight. Since I typically hang the foot end higher, and I wanted to be tight to the SRL, the tarp ended up higher at the foot end, so the tarp was higher at one end as well. I never much cared whether the tarp was straight and level but have seen others toil over it... How about you?
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I always angle my tarp for drainage purposes in case it rains. Do we have a bit of OCD

Depending on the weather and wind speed/direction, I will pitch a low corner and slightly angle the ridgeline.
Oooh, shiney! What does THIS button do?

Totally dictated by the terrain and if I see a need for drainage in a particular direction.

Rough enough is good enough, if it looks fairly level I'm happy...but I do have the centre side tieout low & the 2 outside tieouts high if in collecting rainwater mode.

Level because I hate bumping my head on the ridgeline...but if I think a storm is coming from the hammock head end, and because as you stated the head end is quite a bit lower and exposed, I always carry warbonnet doors for that end. Cheap insurance.

I never thought of pitching my tarp other than level.

Since I do not pitch a picture perfect tight tarp, I do pitch one end lower and other end higher—
hoping any rain will run off rather than pooling.
Usually entire ridgeline is higher than top of my head and hat.
I just have given my off the wall suspension Kokomo a rest and am now using a separate tarp ridgeline that is tighter and it looks like there will be less pooling and less of a trough on ridgeline seam. With my out to lunch capabilities, I still want ridgeline slanted a bit just in case there is a hint of a trough in ridgeline seam.

    Ditto.
I’ll even have slack in the tarp ridgeline as it hangs between the trees - this goes away once I tighten down the guylines to the ground.

The two reasons I see for pitching level:

    1. It looks better (YMMV)
    2. It gives you the best coverage for your hammock and gear.
