Hang spot suggestions needed near International Falls, MN

My brother and I are going to Canada for a week of fishing this coming June. Where we're going is an 18 hour drive from my house, so we plan on stopping somewhere just south of International Falls, MN for the night and then making the rest of the drive the next morning. I thought instead of paying for a hotel, we would take our hammocks and just camp for the night.

Does anyone know of any good spots to hang along HWY 53 that's close to International Falls? Just looking for something close to the highway where we can just hang hammocks and sleep. Thanks in advance for the help!

I don't have a specific spot but MN allows "dispersed" camping in any state forest. Hwy 53 runs through Kabetogama so just find a safe spot to park and enjoy the forest. It is black bear country so take appropriate care.

Stop in Eveleth at the Hockey Hall of Fame if you have time.

This campground just south of the border crossing has tent sites for $20/night. Not free, but cheaper than a hotel http://www.arnoldsfishing.com/camping.htm Never been there, but looks like plenty of trees for hanging.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input! I didn't realize Minnesota allowed dispersed camping on state land, so most likely we'll go that route. Looks like plenty of state land just south of International Falls. Matter of fact, hanging just a little bit west of The Gateway General Store sounds like a good plan. Again, thanks so much for the help!
