Would like some feedback on the pros and cons of double or single sleeves...
I prefer the single tarp sleeve over the double. The double causes a bubble of material in the middle- that you have to fuss with to get it all inside the sleeves. With the single, you just slide it over the entire tarp, and everything fits nicely. I find it quicker to deploy and pack up.
Not to long ago I was in the market for Snake Skins and had the same question. Ultimately I went with the single piece. It is slightly lighter (one less shock cord and cord lock). I went with the noseeum netting. I am very happy with my choice and will always have a tarp sleeve going forward.
I don't think there is a right answer, just personal preference.
Smaller tarps I like double. On my Superfly I use a single. Helps messing around with the middle tarp air bubble.

I use a double on my Superfly but have considered going with a single because of the air bubble in the middle. My question is about the extra material that you now have on one end verses splitting between both sides. Does it get in the way? I have the Hennessy snake skins now and will be going to the mesh so that should make a huge difference
Thanks for the help, Shug. Been a long time follower. Really appreciate your hammocking wisdom!!!
Thanks for all the input. Sounds like single is the way to go
I've used 3 different skins and swore I wouldn't go back. The first 2 were 2 piece skins made of silpoly. The 3rd and final is a single made of noseeum.
I feel like in the past my skins were too tight and silpoly on silpoly not "slick" enough. This resulted in a very unwieldy, stiff, annoying rock like thing. Currently I'm using a Dyneema tarp with doors and too me, the tarp is huge. Because of this I opted to try a snakeskin again. I grabbed a noseem one from Dutch and a Dyneema stuff sack. This has proven to contain the tarp well, make for easy deploying and take down and keeps other things from getting wet by being able to be put away in a water proof bag. So far so good.
I am now trying out not storing my lines on my tarp (other than split ridgeline) - again, neater when taking the tarp down and sliding on the skin.
I am newer to hammocking but have to vote for one piece per my experience. I have both Dyneema and mesh and either way the one piece is just easy to use with no “bubble” in the middle as described above
Because I can't see a time when I'd only want one half of the 2 part skin off, a 1 piece skin seems the way to go. Setting up in the wind, you only expose a little of the tarp at a time anyway - whether 1 or 2 piece. The possible negative to 1 piece is more bulky material to scrunch up at the end of the tarp. I've been running a line from the tarp, around the tree, down the full length of the tarp, around the other tree and back to the tarp (complete loop). In order to use skins in that situation, I had to make 8 inch dogbones for the tarp ends in order to extend the connection point so the skin had a place to live when scrunched up.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
