How quick did it take for your first fall or flip?

As per Forrest Gump, "stupid is what stupid does."

I rushed outside as it was getting dark to test out my new Warbonnet UQ on my new RR.

Long story short I didn't make sure the suspension buckles on the strap were around the tree carefully and when I sat down, kaboom! Holy cow! Was I shocked. Luckily the RR doesn't sit so high up, but right down on my butt and the new UQ. Nothing hurt except for my pride, but I got back up, fixed the strap and buckle (tore strap a little, ordering a new one) and got back into the hammock.

I happen to be video taping it also like everyone else does. Sent video to friends and daughter on how not to be stupid.

So I think I have set this hammock up 7-8 times, slept in it twice during that time. Hope to not repeat that especially if I ever want to hammock camp on paddle trips and hang above the water!

Lesson learned, don't rush! No fault of the equipment, just me being to excited and not staying focused!

So, who wants to tell the truth? Have you ever flipped over or fallen out?

Maybe one day I'll tell you how I flipped over a Pungo 120 kayak which is usually impossible! That's on another forum. take care

Not yet! I always sit carefully the first sit of each hang - sometimes things may slip a bit, but I haven't been dropped yet.

I wonder about some of the flipping and falling stories I've read - seems nearly physically impossible to flip a gathered-end hammock with a ridgeline accidentally, yet they claim to have had to cut their way out.

Took me a few years to sit in my underquilt, missing the hammock entirely, after a bathroom break in the wee hours. I waited another year to make sure I could repeat the act, and sure enough did. It's been a few years since, but I'm very particular about making sure I know the difference between hammock & underquilt.

Lol. I’ve also sat in the quilt late at night AND rolled in one side and right out the opposite without slowing down. Very graceful I’m sure!

To answer your question; I’m pretty sure this was all in my first 12-18 months and always when I was half asleep or in a rush. I’m sure a suspension “failure” is is my future at this pace! I try not to hang too high. Lol

I did it once, hoping nobody saw me, but they did. It's never happened again.

Just don't do that and say you did. As the saying goes, "Never hang higher than you're willing to fall." However, if you disregard my advice, make sure and take a pic so you can enter it in the ENO photo contest, which is made up primarily of photos of stupid people hanging places they shouldn't.

I have often wondered how the people in these photos manage to get in or out of their hammocks. Not too gracefully I imagine.

After about 6 months I just somehow completely overshot the hammock and fell out the other side...much to the amusement of my fellow campers! (And myself!)

Took a few years, but as others have confessed, I sat in my UQ once ... all the way to the ground. Made me an expert -- have never done it again! LOL
