I'm thinking about going to Stillwater this Thursday-Saturday. I'll see about scouting good hammock sites.

wanna meet up friday morning out there? I'm only a few hours away.
I'm still debating. I want to get out to the ADK's to pick up my canoe but forecast is now showing heavy thunderstorms on Thursday. Possibly severe. I really don't want to be paddling on an unfamiliar lake in severe thunderstorms. I'd consider going up Friday but not sure if sites would be available. I'll monitor the weather and see what works. Maybe the following Thursday. Keep you posted.

Keep this thread going. My buddy and I would be interested in a meet-up with you all in the ADKs sometime
The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog.
I'd be interested in this.. I have time off in July & August. I have two trips planned for Sept, but both are group hangs of 40+ people... they wouldn't miss me if I did something else
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

The weather has really been throwing some curve balls. I've been trying to get up to the reservoir and do some fishing and relaxing. Possibly thinking about getting in on Wednesday and heading out Friday. I would have preferred going in on Thursday and heading out Sat or Sun but looks like the winds have a chance of being in the 20-30 mph area and that's no fun for paddling or fishing. Still chances of thunderstorms Wed-Friday but winds look lower.
If I don't get up there this coming week it's going to have to wait till sometime in August.

Heading in Thursday afternoon. Staying as long as I can tolerate the heat. Trying to stay till Saturday evening but we'll see.

I only stayed Thursday. Turns out it wasn't the heat that was the issue. It was the BUGS!!!
Worst I've ever experienced and it didn't even include blackflys. The mosquitoes were insane and the horse flys were pretty bad too. After paddling 2 hrs in to the site, I was hungry so I wanted to eat. So before setting up the stove I fired up the Thermacell. No effect. Then light up 2 bug coils. Nothing. Then I hose myself down with bug spray. They started landing and drinking seconds after the spray. Mutant ADK skeets! So I resorted to the bug suit. I was covered in bugs and the smart ones were going for my hands. I had enough and retreated to my hammock. About 2 minutes after getting into the hammock I had about a 100+ mosquitoes on the bug net. It was really creepy. So I got up early Friday and paddled out. I did end it on a positive note and stopped in at the diner there and had breakfast. It was DELICIOUS! I also got to watch swarms of hummingbirds instead of bugs. Stillwater is nice and will be even nicer when those little so n so's aren't there.

Sorry I never got back to you. We are horse sitting for some friends this weekend. We should work on setting a date. Maybe the second or third weekend of September? I don't even care if it snows...
