Oh that's too bad. I was expecting them to behave the same. I haven't yet used my UL mat. Might return it then. I only bought it to get the pump bag for my Synmat 9 LW and maybe get some lighter mat with me when mat is needed and synmat 9 is too big.
I just read from one norwegian forum that a guy broke two UL Exped mats in his Draumr within a month. The non-UL version he got works fine.
I'd love to know what he did that caused the mats to fail
mat in the draumr is pretty easy on the mat, compared to being used on the ground
only thing I can think of is that he was filling it ultra full, and then folding the footbox over
i know I can't/don't do that move with a fulll synmat9
It didn't say what he did. Only how the mats broke. One of the walls seperating the tubes broke. I have heard it happen to exped mats. I'm not sure if it is an issue with newer versions. That thread is 2 years old.
I don’t know if its forbidden to share links to other forums here, you can find the thread by googling ” synmat ul 7 vs. Synmat ul 9 fjellforum”
It burst because you push against the mat when you shift. It broke an internal baffle / connection. Not as heavy duty is my thinking.
Was always interested in the amok and the xl looks like it is finally big enough for me at 198cm. But testing equipment at my height is always a chore. It’s a compromise to get something that works over something that is ideal.
This is one of those markets I wish I could be a product tester because buying $550 worth of gear just to say nope and resell does not go over well with the budget or spouse.

Thank you I snooped and saw that. It was more of an overarching gripe of being outside of societies normal dimensions where products are not just inconvenient when they are not sized for me they flat out don’t work , you can’t alter a shirt to have 2 more inches of sleeve, and it can often be the largest size they carry. Shoe shopping is often what do you have in my size not what do I like.

Draumr is back in stock in the European store. Ordered mine in woody green.
Still haven't decided if I should return the UL LW mat. What I really would need is a lightweight mat with low R-value. Exped has the airmat, but amok customer service told me it would be too thin. They recommend the mat to be atleast 7 cm thick.
