Vicki, kayak manufacturers should publish a weight limit for any given kayak model. It is important know what those are and how that compares to your total gear weight plus yourself when out on the water.

Good info. Thank you. I bought my kayak used, it's an inexpensive little turd.
How far is it from landing to camp site?

Thanks, Harley. If I can't figure out how to do it myself I'll cancel my spot.

There should be at least two people with boats that can ferry people from the landing to the sites and back.. If you feel your kayak will not do the trick and still feel like going just talk to Frank or Fishbite to arrange the transport. This is an amazing chance to get away and see one of the newest state parks and relax on and in the water.

You are a very generous group. I appreciate the ride offers. (or your offers of others giving rides I think it will work out.

Please don't let this stop you from going, Vicki. Once I drop off my 90 lb dog and my gear I could tote your stuff for you.

As for the bugs, they are more likely than not to be miserable. I'd advise bringing permethrin-treated clothing and hat, insect shield buff, maybe even a bug net that goes over your head, although I find them miserable in warm weather.

I certainly agree with everything Loonatic recommended for bug protection, and maybe some picardin to spray on your hands and face. I have never been bitten through permethrin treated clothes. No matter what at dusk I found them to be insane, especially out on the water, but the rest of the day and night they are probably not too bad and a fire may keep them away a bit. If anybody has a thermacell, please bring it, I will bring mine.

Only time will tell, but they were not an issue last year.
