Half-zipped netted or no net with Summer sock

I can't decide. Anyone have an opinion either way? I'm wondering how useful the tie outs are? I don't have them on my current hammock so I'm wondering what they add?

Tie-outs are preferred by some people for keeping the bug netting away from your face. They also hold the hammock more open when it's unoccupied. They also add more lines to the ground increasing the number of potential tripping points, and they add extra bits of gear to set up and possibly leave behind at the site.

Another comparison would be Half-zipped vs Netless with Bottom Entry Bugnet. The Summer Sock sort of combines the functions of a bugnet with an underquilt protector. Some people don't like fiddling with zippers and prefer the Bottom Entry (Fronkey-style) bugnet.

Summer Sock or Bottom Entry Bugnet - neither really give you the option of using tie-outs, unless you mod them in somehow.

I live in Florida. I need the bugnet year round. I like to drink beer. I need the tieouts to keep the hammock open when I'm getting in for the night.

    It's a tricky one

Maybe I should save some pennies for an extra couple of months and spring for a chameleon

It's all so bewildering. Too much choice is stopping me from a decision

I, personally, don't use a bug net, and have never had a problem. In southern Missouri and North Tennessee I have been fine with a bit of Picaradin on my arms and face and permethrin treatment on my hammock and top quilt. There's been times I've had some issue with bitey bugs before bed, but as soon as I am snuggled up in my hammock I've not had a problem. I may be an exception, but the wife.is typically destroyed by skeeters outside of the hammock and she has the same setup as me, also without issue. YMMV.

I dunno that I want to run that risk here in Texas! We're coming up on prime skeeter season. Annoying little 's

I went with the Half Zipped because it was lighter and cheaper than the Chameleon (w/bugnet).

I prefer a simple, gathered-end hammock like the Dutch Netless, with a Fronkey bugnet. Simple and affordable.
