Firstly, nice hammock! I like the size of this one, and I think I'm going to try one at this size.
Two questions...where did you find the 40" spreader bars?
Next question: I've looked at a lot of these Ariel-style designs and I'm wondering if there's a reason I haven't seen anyone use a single piece of amsteel (per side) and just splice a small length in to create the loop for the spreader bar tips?
Sorry for the late reply here. For the spreader bars I used poles from Quest Outfitters (https://www.questoutfitters.com/Tent_Poles_742.htm). I used 2 #4064 and 2 #4065. As well as 4 #4126 Endtips. I then used a hacksaw and cut off the extra from poles. I did cut off more from the poles with the insert so that the pole would all be of equal length when packed.
As far as just splicing in a piece I don't see why that wouldn't work. It is convenient, since I have different colors for my head/foot ends, to be able to tell which end I'm pulling out of the stuff sack without searching for the pockets at the head. I suppose different color carabiners would accomplish the same thing.
