Excited to get my Treem recently, and I've been modifying it to use the square aluminum cinch buckles. I like their engineering with no hard edges and lots of surface area to cinch down, hopefully working well for the tension setup.

Also the square shape plays better for pulling out to the edges for a bridge, where pulling in a straight line to a gathered end hammock seemed to require proper wrapping and tilt avoidance. So larks heads on the corners could be fun instead of following the original double-larks on the ring.

Trouble is this means I can't nest the larks, need to splice them on... well... no problem, splicing practice!!

Still newish to splicing, made some whoopies years ago. This time I decided to play with locked brummel eyes with a full tapered bury on the hammock ends, and the tuck-bury eye splice around the cinch buckles.

The tuck-bury eye splice seems pretty cool and allows the bury to be a little shorter. It wasn't really necessary here and took a LOT of extra time. I did the 8 locked brummels in ~2hrs, then another couple to figure out the first tuck-bury and setup the others, then 1 more hour to finish each tuck-bury.

For the ends at first I hoped I could tape them with glitter tape or something and they'd serve as cool rain-drip bling, but even sticking with the heavy 1/8" amsteel the half-fibers are too small to really do much with so I just taped them all to the core.

As for the Treem itself I've only had the chance to set it up once, but I love the quality of materials and elegance of design. It feels like it will last a long time!

I'll add more about how it works out after I finish things up and take it out with my new Winter Haven!

    Hi,

Thanks for your review. I want to imporve my treem too.

How did you fix the bugnet ?

Do you have enough tension to make the hammock very flat without the entire system ?

    Thanks

I strung a tarp ridgeline at the right height above my hammock
Deciding on a centre zip for simplicity, I cut the netting in half & sewed that in 1st.
Then I pinched the netting underneath the tarp ridgeline until I had the shape I wanted...pinned or clipped any folds in the corners, marked the overhanging width & length to be cut...then jumped in the hammock to make sure I was happy with the headroom & space.
Made the mods, then machine sewed the netting around the edge of the hammock.

I have the toggle/ rope 2ring system on one end, double rap rings & webbing on the other. Both work.
Tensioning is easier with the original toggle system( pulley system, more mechanical advantage) but i like how the double aluminium rap rings holds instantly while I adjust the other end.

Having said that...I just added the toggle & 2ring system to my DIY single & double layer Madtree hammock clones so it must be growing on me !

Foldback paper clips or pins come in handy to hold the netting in place as you make adjustments.

There's also a cheap DIY bugnet idea on his Facebook page...ok for car camping.

    Hi,

Thanks a lot. I'm thinking about a removable bugnet, maybe using velcro.

I have mummy shape mattress ( https://www.thermarest.com/fr/matela...ir-xtherm.html ) and noticed that during the night, the foot mattress slip to one side. Did you noticed that ?

Velcro bugnet or zipperless will work...
My Treem is the original narrow version so maybe that's why I didn't notice any pad movement. He made a wider version after some feedback.

Later on, a Diy Under Quilt to suit your Treem will give you a much wider warm area...and no more limbs falling off the edges of your pad & feeling cold.

All this talk of Treem pads & UQ's recently has pushed me over the edge....sometimes I need a good nudge.
The local National Parks are open for camping on the 12th June so that gives me 3weeks to have a go at making a UQ for my Treem...do-able.
