You could, but there's no real need to...most of the others bridge makers cut theirs deeper/ lower centre of gravity/ more stable. But if your curiosity gets the better you, have a play.

As you can see from the previous post pics, this is more like a tensioned stretcher. Along the lines of this...

The top two suspenders take the weight while the bottom two provide tension, stability & shape. You can get away with a single bottom suspender if you need to.

Just another way to hang between those lovely swaying trees...

    Versatile update...trekking pole adapter.
    Leave the spreader bars behind.

Indrek is still experimenting with the bugnet design.

ofuros Can you explain your straps a little more. I ordered one of the side sleepers and thing the straps could be lighter and am interested in what you have came up with.

Ok, into the rabbit warren we go...

I replaced the original grey dyneema suspension with the next size down + added some colour, red(top) & yellow(bottom) Why? I had some lying around & to save weight...and for splicing practice.

Instead of using the original steel rings, one on the dyneema suspension & one next to tree on the poly tree strap, I attached(larkshead) two aluminium descender rings on the dyneema suspension only.

Then replaced treem's heavy/strong poly strap/steel grab with a light/strong strap. Did away with the toggle/dogbone tension system, as I can get enough tension via double rings.

For straps I experimented with dutch's & ripstop's lightweight Spiderweb, Uhmwpe & Venom straps with the double rings...they either slipped, curled over like dyneema cord or they had to be flattened out first as you rolled them back up(a pain in the you know what).

So ended up with using Spider/poly straps, it feels good in use, wears well + it keeps its shape so i don't have to fight it when rolling it back up. All i do is add some tension to the top suspension, it holds by itself, I make fine adjustments to the angle of the dangle & bottom suspension, then finish with a safety hitch in front of the rings.

    * Give the original set up with toggle/dogbone tensioning a run first...if you grow to like it, you could just larkshead a ring to a super lightweight tree hugger(loop both ends) to replace the heavy original strap & steel grab. Straps 9-12ft long depending on the average size of trees in your area.

I've also played around with a single ring + lightweight slippery dyneema tree straps + truckies hitch for tensioning...but still prefer the rings.

Hope that helps, I'll try & get some pics over the weekend...

PPS. When I find time I'll make a under quilt for it...just a much wider sweet spot (warmth) compared to the narrow pad I have...or maybe a quick & dirty windproof undercover.

Awesome thanks for the response and I tried the original suspension on the pass it forward unit I had. I like it just looking at cutting weight if I can.

If you did all the above, you'll save 300g or 10.5oz

Simplest route is a lightweight tree strap + descender ring combo. I'll place them on the scales as soon as the sun rises here, in about 15 mins...and let you know.

    If my notes are correct...

    Old total = 360g / 12.7oz
(4x heavy Strap, steel grab + steel ring)

    New total = 152g / 5.4oz
    (4x 12ft spiderweb 1.5 + aluminium descender ring)

    Saving 208g / 7.3oz....just over half.

The hammocks are now for sale on Indiegogo until the end of this year (2019):

BgTJ01, would you mind sharing your neutral and independent impressions (both good and bad) of your Treem hammock with others here?
It would also be interesting to see all the modifications you do to it.

    Hi,

Does anybody tried both Treem and JRB Ultralight ?
    https://www.jacksrbetter.com/product...light-hammock/

I like the flatness of the Treem but not the extra weight (vs JRB Ultralight speaking).

Like I am a stomach sleeper I wonder wich could be the best for me.

I plan to use the hammock with a neoair inside.
